Description

We have created a wall unit to fit into an existing alcove in the living room, to accommodate the television and other equipment.

How did you make the furniture?

We wanted to create a wall unit with compartments of equal size. After some calculation, we divided the total width and height by 4 and 6 to get approximately equal (almost) square compartments. Then we chose not to fill the entire wall with compartments, as this would be somewhat overwhelming for the space in the living room. We placed the tall part of the cabinet on the left side, so it is not visible when you enter the room. This visually reduces the space occupied by the large part of the furniture. We assembled the furniture according to the instructions with 3 people. First, we installed the tall part and then attached the low part to it. All the measurements were correct, and the parts fit in the end. We only had a little challenge with the top plate of the low part. Due to a protruding windowsill, there was little maneuvering space to get the plate between the tall cabinet and the side of the alcove. It proved useful and advisable to have 3 people so that the wall did not get damaged when placing the long top plate in the tight space of the alcove. In the end, we are happy that we adhered to the external dimensions with not too much tolerance (about 0.5-1.0 cm), as the furniture now fits perfectly into the alcove. After construction, we drilled some holes for the cables of the equipment. Finally, we painted the furniture twice with matte white paint. We are now very satisfied with this sturdy and sleek wall unit that completes our living room.
