In this DIY project, Iris shows how she closed an open staircase herself. For this job she ordered custom-made plywood poplar panels. This way she could get started straight away. Read more about her approach and experience below.

Description of Iris

The stairs to the attic floor were an open staircase. We wanted to close these stairs.

How I made this project

I first measured all the steps. I could give each individual step a name via the order configurator, which was very easy and was especially useful when placing the step. I chose primed plywood 12mm. I purchased a wolfcraft drill set to make angled drill holes at the top of the planks. I could easily close this again afterwards with wood filler. I first pre-drilled the bottom holes, then finished them with a countersink drill so that the screw disappears nicely. Finally, all holes were filled with wood filler. The kitten still needs to be done. Then sand again and paint the entire staircase again. It was a lot of fun to do and a lot easier with the help of the custom-sawn planks! Highly recommended.

Dimensions of my DIY project

The sizes differed per step, measuring from the bottom of the stair step to the top step.
