A custom children's desk with storage bins and wall shelf, by Joanne

You can find many children's desks on the internet and in stores, but nothing is as fun as designing and customizing them yourself. This is how Joanne started working with sawn sheet material ordered online. For her DIY project she chose MDF blank and pine carpentry panel. The result is a very nice children's desk with storage space and wall shelf. Completely unique and custom-made!

We used the material to create a desk for a toddler/preschooler with two storage bins on wheels. The length is 140 cm, width 40 cm and the height approximately 42 cm.

How I made this project

We made this desk with the supplied wood. First of all we have the left and right pine 'legs' attached to the pine top with mounting kit and 3 L-supports per leg. Because you attach the L-supports to the inside, the legs move slightly inwards. We did not find this disturbing, you just have to take it into account when attaching the center legs. We then made the storage bins from MDF. First we attached the wheels to the bottom. Then we attached the sides. We did this with mounting kit and screws. We mounted the bottom slightly higher (see photos) so that the wheels are not visible. Tip: it is precision work, use corner clamps to attach it accurately. We tightened the screws in the boxes a little further, so that we could then fill them with wood filler. Finally, we primed and varnished these containers. Finally, we have the middle 'legs' secured with 3 l brackets per leg and mounting kit, after we put the bins in to make sure it fits. We attached the l-supports as follows: 2 on the side of the box, 1 on the side of the seating area. This prevents it from being 'crooked' appears. We attached the pine wall shelf with shelf supports, which we painted in the same color as the containers.
